Gas Permeable Contact Lens Solutions
Please do NOT use this product unless you have received specific instructions from Dr. Q @ QT Optometry, and you clearly understand the Directions for Use. This is to be used with rigid gas permeable (fluoro silicon acrylate) contact lenses. Please do NOT use with soft contact lenses, including hydrogel, silicon hydrogel, or hybrid soft contact lenses!
Menicon Unique–pH Multi Purpose Solution:
Please do NOT use this product unless you have received specific instructions from Dr. Q @ QT Optometry, and you clearly understand the Directions for Use. This is to be used with rigid gas permeable (fluoro silicon acrylate) contact lenses. Please do NOT use with soft contact lenses, including hydrogel, silicon hydrogel, or hybrid soft contact lenses!
Description:
- Menicon Unique – pH Multi-Purpose Solution is a sterile, buffered aqueous solution. It contains hydroxypropyl guar, polyethylene glycol, poloxamine, boric acid, propylene glycol, and is preserved with polyquaternium – 1 0.0011%, and edetate disodium 0.01%.
Warnings:
- EYE PROBLEMS, INCLUDING CORNEAL ULCERS CAN DEVELOP RAPIDLY AND LEAD TO LOSS OF VISION. IF YOU EXPERIENCE EYE DISCOMFORT, EXCESSIVE TEARING, VISION CHANGES, OR REDNESS OF THE EYE, IMMEDIATELY REMOVE YOUR LENSES AND PROMPTLY CONTACT DR. Q @ QT OPTOMETRY.
- Studies have shown that smokers have a higher incidence of adverse reactions.
- Thus, you should NOT smoke.
- Never touch the dropper tip of the container to any surface, since this may contaminate the solution.
- Replace cap after use.
- To avoid contaminating your solution, do not transfer to other bottles or containers.
- Reuse of solution or use of water with lenses may lead to contamination, resulting in eye injury and potential loss of vision.
- Always wash and dry hands before handling lenses.
- Do not use tap water, bottled water, or saliva with lenses or lens case.
- Only use fresh solution to clean and disinfect contact lenses.
- Discard any remaining solution in your lens case after each disinfection cycle. (Never reuse solution).
- Saline or re-wetting drops will not disinfect your lenses.
- Always replace your solutions, lenses, and lens case as directed.
- To avoid contamination, do not touch tip of container to any surface. Replace cap after using.
- Not for use with heat (thermal) disinfection.
- Store at room temperature. Store upright.
- Use before the expiration date marked on the carton and bottle.
- Keep this and all medication out of the reach of children.
Actions, Indications (Uses), and Contraindications (Reasons NOT to Use):
- Cleans: Menicon Unique – pH Multi-Purpose Solution removes dirt, protein deposits, and debris from your contact lenses. No separate daily cleaners required.
- Conditions: This solution adjusts to your eye’s natural tear pH to enhance the wettability and comfort of rigid gas permeable contact lenses upon insertion. This formula is designed to provide a soothing effect during lens wear.
- Disinfects: This solution contains antimicrobial agents which destroy harmful microorganisms (germs) commonly found on the surfaces of lenses.
- Menicon Unique – pH Multi-Purpose Solution is indicated for the cleaning, rinsing, disinfection, and conditioning of fluorosilicone acrylate and silicone acrylate rigid gas permeable contact lenses.
- If you are allergic to any ingredient in Menicon Unique–pH Multi-Purpose Solution, please do not use this product.
- It is NOT for use with soft contact lenses.
Precautions:
- Never reuse this solution.
- Keep bottle tightly closed when not in use.
- Always wash and rinse your hands before handling your lenses.
- Your lenses must be cleaned and disinfected each time they are removed.
Adverse Reactions (Problems and What to Do):
- The following problems may occur:
- Eyes stinging, burning, or itching (irritation).
- Excessive watering (tearing) of the eyes.
- Unusual eye secretions.
- Redness of the eyes.
- Reduced sharpness of vision (visual acuity).
- Blurred vision.
- Rainbows or halos around objects.
- Sensitivity to light (photophobia).
- Dry eyes.
- If you notice any of the above problems, immediately remove and examine your lenses.
- If the problem stops and the lenses appear to be undamaged, thoroughly clean, rinse, and disinfect the lenses and reinsert them. Do not reinsert a damaged lens.
- If the problem continues or a lens appears to be damaged, IMMEDIATELY remove your lenses and IMMEDIATELY consult Dr. Q.
- If any of the above problems occur, a serious condition such as infection, corneal ulcer, neovascularization, or iritis may be present. Seek immediate professional identification of the problem and treatment to avoid serious eye damage.
Directions for Use:
- Always wash and rinse your hands before handling your contact lenses.
- Always handle one lens, left or right, first in order to avoid mix-ups.
- Use only the solutions recommended by Dr. Q. Progent Protein Remover every four (4) weeks and Unique pH Multipurpose every day.
- Remove imprinted seal around bottleneck completely before use.
- Steps for Proper Disinfection:
- In order to provide appropriate care for your lenses the following steps must be completed each time you remove your lenses. Do not skip any step.
- Cleaning: Rub both sides of the lenses carefully with 2 to 4 drops of Menicon Unique – pH Multi – Purpose Solution. Be sure to clean each side of the lens.
- Rinsing: Thoroughly rinse with the Menicon Unique – pH Multi – Purpose Solution.
- Conditioning and Storage: Place each lens in the correct side of the lens storage case, then fill each chamber with fresh Menicon Unique – pH Multi – Purpose Solution completely, covering the lenses.
- Close the case tightly.
- Store the lenses in Menicon Unique – pH Multi – Purpose Solution for at least four (4) hours prior to wearing your lenses.
- Store your lenses in the unopened case until ready to wear, up to a maximum of thirty (30) days.
- In order to provide appropriate care for your lenses the following steps must be completed each time you remove your lenses. Do not skip any step.
- Before Wearing:
- Lenses may be removed from the storage case and placed directly into your eyes.
- For extra cushioning, a drop of the Menicon Unique – pH Multi – Purpose Solution may be added to the inside of each lens prior to insertion.
- To prevent contamination and help avoid serious eye injury, always empty and rinse your lens storage case with fresh solution and allow it to air-dry.
- Refill the case with fresh Menicon Unique – pH Multi – Purpose Solution immediately before the next use of the case.
- How Supplied:
- Menicon Unique – pH Multi – Purpose Solution is supplied in a sterile 2 fl. oz. or 4 fl. oz. (120 mL) size bottle with one RGP lens case.
- Menicon Unique – pH Multi – Purpose Solution is supplied in a sterile 2 fl. oz. or 4 fl. oz. (120 mL) size bottle with one RGP lens case.
Menicon Progent Deep Cleaning Regimen
Please do NOT use this product unless you have received specific instructions from Dr. Q @ QT Optometry, and you clearly understand the Directions for Use. This is to be used with rigid gas permeable (fluoro silicon acrylate) contact lenses. Please do NOT use with soft contact lenses, including hydrogel, silicon hydrogel, or hybrid soft contact lenses!
Descriptions:
- Menicon Progent Protein Remover for Rigid Gas Permeable Contact Lenses (”PROGENT”) is the mixture of two sterile solutions, Progent A (sodium hypochlorite, sodium carbonate, sodium hydroxide, purified water) and Progent B (potassium bromide, sodium carbonate, purified water).
- Progent A and B are mixed in a Progent Vial. Then allow the lenses to soak in the Progent solution mixture for 30 minutes. Soaking for longer than 30 minutes is not recommended.
- Progent Rinsing Solution (sterile purified water) is provided for rinsing the lenses and Progent Vial. The Progent treatment is recommended every four weeks. The frequency may vary according to the condition of your lens.
Warning:
- Do NOT put Progent Solution (A, B, OR Mixture) in the eye. Severe irritation, burning, and stinging may result. If the solution is accidentally put into the eye, immediately remove contact lenses if being worn and rinse the eye thoroughly for about three (3) minutes with sterile saline solution or another appropriate rinsing solution. Please contact Dr. Q @ QT Optometry immediately.
- Do NOT put Progent Solution (A, B, OR Mixture) in the nose. Severe irritation, burning, and stinging may result. If solution is accidentally put into the nose, immediately rinse thoroughly for about three (3) minutes with sterile saline solution or another appropriate rinsing solution. Please contact Dr. Q @ QT Optometry immediately.
- Do NOT take Progent Solution (A, B, OR Mixture) internally. If solution is accidentally swallowed, drink a large quantity of water. Please contact Dr. Q @ QT Optometry immediately or contact a poison control center.
- Do NOT touch Progent Solution (A, B, OR Mixture) with open skin. If solution is spilled on the skin, wash thoroughly with running tap water for about three (3) minutes.
- After cleaning with Progent, lenses should be cleaned with a daily cleaner and disinfected as recommended by Dr. Q. Failure to do so may result in eye irritation, burning, or stinging. Serious injury to the eye and loss of vision may result from problems with contact lenses and lens care solutions. Eye problems, including corneal ulcers and infections, can develop rapidly. Immediately remove your lenses and call or visit Dr. Q @ QT Optometry if you experience any adverse reactions such as: eye discomfort, excessive tearing, vision changes, pain, unusual eye discharge, sensitivity to light, or redness of the eye.
Actions, Indications (Uses), and Contraindications (Reasons NOT to Use):
- Progent loosens and removes deposits, such as protein deposits, that may cause irritation and/or discomfort from contact lenses.
- Progent, when used as directed, cleans and removes protein deposits from fluoro silicone acrylate (RGP) contact lenses.
- Please do NOT use Progent if you are allergic to any ingredient in the product. Do NOT use with soft contact lenses including hydrogel, silicone hydrogel, or hybrid soft contact lenses.
Precautions:
- Please remember to always wash and rinse your hands before handling your contact lenses.
- Use only freshly mixed Progent solution and discard immediately after use. Never reuse the solution.
- Progent (both Progent A and Progent B) and Progent Rinsing Solution containers are for single use only and should be discarded after use.
- Soaking for longer than 30 minutes is not recommended because it may cause lens discoloration.
- Do NOT spill Progent solution on clothes. It may bleach them. Wash clothes immediately.
- Use only Progent Vial. Do not use any other container for solution mixing and lens cleaning with Progent.
- Use before the expiration date marked on the single – use containers and outer carton.
- Keep out of reach of children.
- Store at room temperature.
Adverse Reactions (Problems and What to Do):
- The following problems may occur:
- Eyes sting, burn, or itch (irritation).
- Comfort is less than when lens was first placed on the eye.
- Feeling of something in the eye (foreign body, scratched area).
- Excessive watering (tearing) of the eye.
- Unusual eye secretions.
- Redness of the eye.
- Reduced sharpness of vision (poor visual acuity).
- Blurred vision.
- Rainbows or halos around objects.
- Sensitivity to light (photophobia).
- Dry eyes.
- If you notice any of the above, IMMEDIATELY REMOVE YOUR LENSES.
- If the lens is in any way damaged, DO NOT RE – INSERT.
- If the lens does not appear to be damaged and there is not discomfort or a problem, thoroughly clean, rinse and disinfect the lens, then reinsert it.
- If any discomfort or problem occurs, IMMEDIATELY remove the lens and consult Dr. Q for identification of the problem and, if necessary, obtain treatment to avoid serious eye damage.
- If Progent solution is accidentally put into the eye or nose, wash thoroughly for about three (3) minutes with sterile saline or another appropriate rinsing solution.
- Please contact Dr. Q @ QT Optometry for treatment regimen to avoid serious damage.
- If Progent solution is accidentally swallowed, drink a large quantity of water.
- Please contact Dr. Q @ QT Optometry or contact a poison control center.
- If Progent solution is accidentally spilled on the skin, wash thoroughly with running tap water for about three (3) minutes.

Directions for Use:
WARNINGS: Do not allow Progent solutions to touch skin, eyes, or clothing. Use ONLY enclosed Progent Rinsing Solution for rinsing lenses and Progent Vial. To help prevent infections, DO NOT rinse with tap water. Please read and follow the instructions carefully in the following order: Wash and rinse hands before handling contact lenses.
- Place lenses in Left (L) or right (R) holder in top of Progent Vial before mixing solutions.
- Open Progent A container by gently twisting above the neck.
- Hold upright and do not spill on hands or clothes when opening.
- Fill Progent Vial with Progent A (completely empty container into PROGENT Vial).
- Discard Progent A container immediately.
- Open Progent B and empty completely into Progent Vial and discard container.
- Keep discarded containers out of reach of young children.
- NOTE: Mixed A & B solution should be used immediately.
- Tightly close the cap of the Progent Vial and shake gently several times.
- Allow lenses to soak in Progent mixture for about 30 minutes.
- Soaking longer than 30 minutes is NOT recommended.
- DO NOT remove lenses from holders before rinsing.
- Your fingers SHOULD NOT touch the Progent solution.
- Remove Progent Vial cap and keep lenses in Progent Vial holders (do not spill solution).
- Discard Progent mixture into sink with running tap water.
- Open Progent Rinsing Solution container by twisting gently above the neck.
- Empty entire contents into Progent Vial.
- Replace Progent Vial cap tightly (with lenses still in holders) and gently shake the vial.
- Open the vial and remove lenses from holders. Clean and disinfect lenses using the solutions and procedures recommended by your eye care professional.
- After lenses have been removed from Progent Vial holders, discard Progent Rinsing Solution into sink with running tap water.
- Allow Progent Vial to air dry.
- Wash hands after completing all steps.
- Treat lenses with Progent Procedure every four weeks.
- Frequency may vary according to the condition of your lenses.
- Replace Progent Vial with every purchase of Progent Products.
